Biography

b. 1967 Ann Arbor, MI Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA

Lisa Anne Auerbach is an artist, student and teacher asking questions about agency and voice in a cacophonous world. Her knitted work, publications, and photographs have been exhibited at museums, galleries, bicycle shops and malls in America and beyond. She has had solo exhibitions at Bennington College’s Usdan Gallery, Cambell Hall Art Gallery, Aspen Art Museum, Malmö Konsthall, and University of Michigan Museum of Art. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, Parasophia Kyoto International Festival of Culture, Philagrafika2010, and in the 2014 Whitney Biennial. She was a recipient of a California Community Foundation Fellowship for Visual Artists in 2007, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award in 2009, a City of Los Angeles Individual Artist Grant in 2013, and MacDowell Fellowships in 2012 and in 2016. In 2022, she was awarded a Wallis Annenberg Helix Fellowship, and in 2023 received a Lucas Artist Fellowship at Montalvo Arts and an Open Studio Residency at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.

Recent publications include Forever... a catalog for her exhibition at Campbell Hall Gallery (2023), Sweater Parade, a catalog for her show at Usdan Gallery (2023), and PIT a collection of photographs published by the Grass Is Green In the Fields For You, Glasgow, Scotland (2021). Her recently self-published project include Lightworker (2021), This is What Democracy Looks Like (2021), It’s Going to Be Biblical (2022), and Great Awakenings (2020).
