GAVLAK Los Angeles is pleased to present Cheap Vacation, an exhibition of new work by Los Angeles-based artist Michael Manning. This is the artist's second solo exhibition with the gallery.
The works in the exhibition will be comprised of video installations and two different kinds of paintings: archival inkjet print and acrylic on canvas or 3D print on linen. This new body of work explores the liminal moment between experience, memory and the perpetual flux between.
Manning is best known for his alternative approaches to producing and distributing traditional art objects using technology and social networking. The artist creates paintings, videos, and installations that stem from the internet and software, utilizing the crypto-materiality of computer technology in conjunction with his interest in punk counterculture movements.
Michael Manning (b. 1985) has been included in numerous exhibitions worldwide. Recent solo shows include "I Hate Mondays," Mon Cheri, Brussels, BE (2016); "No Rain, No Rainbows," Gavlak, Palm Beach, FL (2016); "And Alterations," Last Resort Gallery, Copenhagen, DK (2015); "Caesar Salad," CURA, Rome, IT (2015); and "Sticky Bumps," Sommer Contemporary, Tel Aviv, IL (2015). He has also been included in group exhibitions at notable institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and Eyebeam Center for the Arts, New York.
A reception will be held for the artist on Saturday, April 15 from 6-8pm and will feature a "build your own" flower crown bar.
