Press Release

For Pride Month, GAVLAK invited longtime friend, collaborator, and acclaimed interior designer Robert Stilin to curate a special selection celebrating the enduring impact of LGBTQ+ artists on culture and contemporary life.

Drawing from GAVLAK's program, his own creative community, and a broader network of artists whose work has shaped generations, Stilin assembled a cross-disciplinary edit spanning painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. Together, these works honor artists whose creative contributions have challenged conventions, expanded perspectives, and transformed the cultural landscape.

Stilin shares, “Across centuries, artists, architects, designers, writers, and visionaries from the LGBTQ+ community have helped shape not only culture, but the way we see and understand the world. Their contributions have expanded perspectives, enriched our collective imagination, and left an enduring mark on contemporary life. This selection is a celebration of that legacy and of the extraordinary artists who continue to move culture forward today.”

Featured artists include: Jose Alvarez (D.O.P.A.), Judie Bamber, Alessio Boni, Andrew Brischler, Harmony Hammond, Andrew Holmquist, Peter Hujar, Isaac Julien, Kris Knight, Robert Mapplethorpe, Maynard Monrow, Carrie Moyer, Betty Parsons, Wolfgang Tillmans, T.J. Wilcox, and Rob Wynne.
